Papago! Philippines app costs $34.99 on Apple App Store, approximately P1,500 on the current exchange rate. But is it worth the cost?

I purchased and installed it on my iPhone about 6 months ago. So far, it works as intended.

I already used it in Metro Manila, Batangas, Laguna and Cavite. So far, I’ve had no problems. It knows the one-way streets. It gives the right direction, giving you turn-by-turn instructions. It has maps, even inside the subdivisions. And when going to a mall, it points you directly to the parking entrance.

It consumes your iPhone battery fast though, so you need to have a car-charger kit for your iPhone if you plan to use it on a long trip. You must also have an iPhone holder on your car. I bought mine on CDR King.

Quarterly update of maps is already free once you purchased the app. I already updated mine, twice since I bought it.

For a price of only P1,500, this is a cheaper alternative compared to other GPS navigator device which costs P5,000 or more. I highly recommend this for people who have iPhone and doesn’t have that sense of direction, getting lost every now and then when driving.

iBooks Error: There is a problem with the configuration of your iPhone

You will get this error once you jailbreak your iPhone and you open the iBooks app.

“There is a problem with the configuration of your iPhone. Please restore with iTunes and reinstall iBooks.”

After clicking OK, the iBooks app will close immediately. Therefore, you’ll not be able to read the books you legally bought on your iBooks. Even if jailbreaking your iPhone is legal on the US, Apple makes it hard for you to read iBooks if you jailbreak your iPhone.

But don’t fret, every problem has a solution. Just follow these steps:

1. Add the Xsellize Repo on Cydia. Go to Cydia > Manage > Sources > Edit > Add and input http://cydia.xsellize.com.

2. After adding Xsellize, search for iBooks Fix for iOS5 on your Cydia.

3. Install it.

4. Reboot your iPhone.

5. Enjoy your iBooks!

Msvcrt.dll Error On Redsn0w When Jailbreaking iOS 5.0.1

If you experience crashing Redsn0w while jailbreaking your iPhone, then you’re not alone. A lot of people reported such problem. Here’s how I fixed it:

The error is about msvcrt.dll causing the crash while running RedSn0w on Windows XP with Service Pack 3. The solution, download a new msvcrt.dll here: http://dll.softandco.com/dll/download-3/Msvcrt.dll.html

Extract that zip file and replace the msvcrt.dll on your C:/Windows/system32/ folder. (Make sure to backup the original msvcrt.dll just to have a copy when the unexpected happens).

After replacing, you’re good to go. Run RedSnow and the crash will be gone. Well, that’s how I fixed my problem.

Emoticons on iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch: Emoji Keyboard on iOS 5 Provides Emoticons to iDevices

Do you know that there’s a hidden emoticon keyboard in your iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch after upgrading to iOS 5? It’s not installed by default, but after installing it, you’ll be able to include emoticons in your messages.

See the keyboard below:

To install it, simply go to Settings > General > Keyboard > International Keyboards > Add New Keyboard… and select Emoji.

When typing, just click the Globe icon on the default keyboard to see the Emoji keyboard full of emoticons.

How To Show Camera Icon on the Lock Screen of iPhone 4 with iOS 5

One of the features of the recently released iOS 5 is an easy access to camera on the lock screen of iPhone 4. However, after upgrading my iPhone 4, I can’t find the camera icon on the lock screen.

A little googling told me that the camera icon is not really displayed on the lock screen by default. To show it, you must double click the home button while on the lock screen! Yeah, as simple as that. Double click the home button and the camera icon will display on the lock screen.
