Before, if you want a 300MB guaranteed memory on your Dreamhost PS, you need to pay them $30/month. Now, you only need to pay $15/month for 300MB. That’s quite a big savings.
I was actually paying them $60+/month to keep all of my blogs on Dreamhost PS up and running. Now, I only need to pay them $30+/month for the same resources. Of course, if I’d rather pay the same amount, my resources will then be doubled.
If you are on Dreamhost PS, you must check your memory allocation. What they did is they doubled your resources. It will not affect your budget since you’ll be paying the same amount as before because they doubled your memory resources. But if you don’t really need that doubled memory resources, log in to your account and downgrade your memory allocation to cut your budget to 50% for the same memory allocation as you have before. Gets?
Here’s the announcement I copied from their February Newsletter:
NEW: DreamHost PS Memory Doubling!
Within the next few days we’ll begin cutting the per-MB price for our easy-to-use, quick-to-configure DreamHost PS servers from $0.10 down to just $0.05 per MB. The entry-level price of $15 isn’t changing, but the base package will now include 300MB, rather than 150MB of usable memory.
This change will be reflected on your next bill if you’ve currently got a Private Server with us. You’ll be paying the same amount of money, but you’ll receive *double* the resources! This might be a good opportunity for you to lower your resource allocation to save some cash if you don’t need the upgrade.
(The upper limit is 4000MB, so if you were already configured to use more than 2000MB, you’ll soon be maxed out at 4000MB.)
It’s never been easier to move to a Private Server from DreamHost. You can adjust resources on-the-fly, get pretty graph views of your server’s usage, and even switch between Apache, Lighttpd, and Nginx at the click of a button. And, because it’s your own private server, you can customize it to your heart’s content with an Admin User… or sit back and let us handle everything for you!
If you want to use Dreamhost for your web hosting needs, don’t sign up without using my promo code: MACUHA50 to get $50 discount. 😉
