The Family Planning Seminar

I was on leave yesterday because we attended the family planning seminar in Batangas as part of the requirements for getting a marriage license. Here’s what happened.

The seminar was scheduled at 1:00PM at the San Pascual Community Hospital. We left the house at 12:30PM and reached the place by 12:45PM. They gave us some forms to fill-up. Around 1:15PM, they brought us to the seminar room. We thought the seminar would already start, but to our dismay, we waited more than an hour before it started. We just sat there with other 4 pairs waiting for the speaker. The seminar started at around 2:30PM.

The speaker was the Municipal Health Officer, Dra. Caraan. Of course, apologies were given for the delay, but there’s no accurate reason on why there was such a delay.

On to the topic of family planning. As usual, some nice introduction on what family planning is and what are the advantages of it. Then the discussion went into details, I felt like attending a health class during my high school days. We talked about seks and beyond for the rest of the hours.

I just noticed that the family planning seminar is more focused on the natural method. They explain the menstrual cycle, ovulation period and all the nitty-gritty details on when the woman is fertile or not. They even recommended the use of that beaded necklace. Of course, they also tackled the artificial method, but not as detailed as the natural method. I think, 75% of the time was used for explaining the natural method and 25% was for the artificial method.

The family planning seminar ended around 4:00PM. The speaker told us to wait for another speaker from DSWD (Department of Social Welfare and Development) for responsible parenthood seminar which turned out to be something else. The speaker came after around 15 minutes. Good thing this speaker from DSWD was kinda lazy talking. She didn’t even introduce herself. She just told us that battered wife can contact them and they are ready to help. (How about the battered husband?) She told us that she knew that we were already tired listening to the first seminar, so, she’ll not make her talk long. Then, we were dismissed afterwards.

We left the place around 4:30PM. All in all, the seminar is just okay. Good for someone who doesn’t know about these things. However, I suggest they attend a punctuality seminar or the time is gold seminar so as not to waste other people’s time when attending that seminar. If you set it at 1:00PM, don’t start at 2:30PM and just apologize for no valid reason.

That’s all.

On a side note, I will be at the iBlog4 tomorrow. See you there!

  1. Great to know you are attending iBlog4. See you!

  2. that’s right! they don’t discuss battered husband! hahaha! that’s our society – macho ever! the woman is presumed to be beaten up always by the husband!

it’s interesting what they teach in the family planning. when i was in barrio siete, i do a lot of work at the church and one of which is assisting those people who conduct family planning seminar. i don’t have any role other than chimay and errand boy but i listen to the seminar with interest, exactly as how you described.

now that i am in the US and looking back – i just realized they didn’t discuss everything! hahaha! i’m sure you could have done a much better job!

congratulations uli and if you need a bridesmaid? i am really pretty! hehehe!
