John Chow got slapped by Google. And most people think it is because of his review my blog for a link back strategy that he is using. When was exchanging reviews become illegal? Did they penalized him because of that? Is it really a shady technique of getting links? Well, only Google can answer.
Which made me wonder, will sponsoring an SEO contest get your site penalized too? I think, this is more shady than what John Chow is doing, because he is doing it for free. It is simply a link baiting technique. But as an SEO contest sponsor, you pay and you get tons of one way links from contestants in a short period of time. It is as simple as buying links. Will the SEO contest sponsors get slapped too? We’ll see. I hope not.
Well, it all depends on what Google define as evil. If they think John Chow practices evil, so, let’s avoid doing it. 🙂
